Majestic Café

The Majestic Café dates back to 1921 and still exudes a Belle Epoque-era ornate interior featuring carved wood, mirrors & chandeliers. The Majestic was a recommendation by someone we know from Porto, an old, beautiful café with a lot of history. I particulary liked the idea that JK Rowling spent a lot of time here writing the first Harry Potter book!

I ordered their famous French toast and a cup of coffee while Koen went for the decadent chocolate cake. While the antique atmosphere is charming, we were left a bit underwhelmed by the food and the service. I think the Majestic is on everyone’s list of things to do in Porto, because the entire café was filled with either Dutch or American tourists. If you want to check it out, I recommend coming for a cup of coffee and something sweet.
