Cooking with my Grandparents: Fish Fry

Fried fish, fried okra, hush puppies, tomato grits, and homemade pickles!

For our last dinner in Georgia, I requested a fish fry! I really enjoyed using my Grandpa’s fryer and was able to put it to good use with the fish, okra and hush puppies! My contribution to the meal was homemade quick dill pickles I prepared a couple of days before! One of the most important recipes I wanted to learn was for my Grandma’s tomato grits. It was a staple at any family gathering growing up – and now I can make them too!

Brunswick stew, brisket, and biscuits

One of the recipes my grandmother was most excited to pass down to me is her recipe for Brunswick Stew. I think every Southern family has their own version, and this is ours (although the exact steps I won’t tell!). Sitting on the porch with my dad

After a busy 9 days in New York City, Koen and I went down to Georgia for a week to visit with family. There’s really no place like home. We enjoyed a relaxing week eating well and enjoying time with family – including meeting my nephew Edward for the first time! I’m so thankful Koen and I were able to see everyone! We had a big low country boil to celebrate Grayson and I being home at the same time. It mostly turned into a baby holding party 🙂
