It’s perfect – celebrations of our relationship twice a year!
This March 29th we celebrated 12 years together!!
Where to go? To celebrate we decided on lunching at the 1 Michelin starredThe Butcher’s Son at the De Koninck Brewery for delicious steak. To quote the Michelin guide, “De Koninck brasserie is the perfect blend of smart, urban design. Red meat showcased like artwork in display cabinets reminds the visitor that meat is the star of the show here; it is traditionally prepared by the chef and served with delicious side dishes. Balanced flavours come above all else at the Butcher’s son. “
With Christina and Rafaël in Antwerp, Koen and I booked a tour of the newly renovated De Koninck Brewery. Of course if you’re in Belgium you need to taste the local cuisine which includes the famous Belgian beers. De Koninck is the biggest brewery in Antwerp – most known for the “Bolleke”, an amber beer named for the goblet shaped glass it’s served in, Triple d’Anvers, an Antwerp style Belgian triple, and Wild Jo, the brewery’s newest beer made with wild yeast.
I was so excited when Barbara whatsapped me to let me know there were still Beyoncé tickets available for the show in Düsseldorf! So I immediately agreed to go and we headed to Germany with her friend Ymke as well to see the Queen Bey. You may remember that we went together to see Beyoncé in Antwerp in April 2014 – so 2 years ago. So exciting to see her again!
Before visiting the brewery, lunch at ‘t Zoete Genot
While my parents were over, Dook (my father-in-law) took us to Arcen, Netherlands to visit the Hertog Jan brewery. Arcen is a beautiful village in the Dutch province of Limburg. Before visiting the brewery, we stopped for lunch in the center of the village at ‘t Zoete Genot. White asparagus is eaten from late April to June, so May is the perfect time to enjoy the asparagus. In the Netherlands, there are two areas where white asparagus is grown, one of them being Limburg. Because of our proximity to the asparagus fields, we enjoyed a delicious, fresh white asparagus themed lunch!
