Last fall my parents moved from Savannah to Macon, Georgia. So when Koen and I went in September 2012 to visit, we stayed in a new city. As sad as I was that my parents moved, I discovered Macon is a beautiful city with musical history (Otis Redding, Little Richard, Allman Brothers).
Little by little I’m trying to update my blog to include photos from our trip to the States in September 2012! So now I’m going to include photos from our weekend trip to Charleston, South Carolina – such a beautiful city!
Although Koen and I are not in the United States to celebrate Cinco De Mayo (5th of May in Spanish), we never pass up the chance to celebrate here in Belgium with Coronas (last year with margaritas) and Mexican food! This time we started in the afternoon with guacamole and corn chips and for dinner made quesadillas with bellpeppers served with pico de gallo.
I think the US is the only country that actually celebrates Cinco De Mayo. Now it’s turned into a celebration of Mexican food and culture and an excuse to drink a lot of tequilla and Coronas!
Yesterday was a holiday in Belgium, Dag van de Arbeid (Labor Day), and Koen and I enjoyed the sunny 65 degree weather by taking a long walk around Antwerp. We walked first through the Groenplaats and the Grote Markt, then to ‘t Eijlandje. Not quite ready to return home, we decided to try out a new restaurant, Maison Clic’Eau, to enjoy a few drinks on the terrace.
This past Sunday, Koen and I were invited by a friend to enjoy Jumping Antwerpen, a horse jumping event located in downtown Antwerp by the harbor. We had never been to any sort of horse event, so we gladly decided to attend! The weather was great and we really enjoyed watching the events!
I am a bit late posting my vacation photos from September last year, but better late than never! Koen and I were in America for 3 weeks, but I think it’s easiest to post photos by state, beginning with North Carolina! Growing up, my family always vacationed in the mountains of North Carolina. This was Koen’s second time coming up with my family!
