Koen and I love gastronomic tourism – you really are able to get a sense of the city and culture by eating the food. While in Porto, we couldn’t pass up the chance to eat at The Yeatman, one of only two 2 star Michelin restaurants in Portugal (the other being Belcanto in Lisbon). Most notable is the wine cellar at The Yeatman. Maybe the name sounds familiar if you’ve been reading my posts – it comes from the port house Taylor, Fladgate, & Yeatman, more commonly just called Taylor’s Port.
The food from Chef Ricardo Costa was outstanding and the service impeccable. Dining at The Yeatman was my favorite meal of our entire Portuguese trip. Well worth heading to Vila Nova de Gaia for the experience – just be sure to reserve enough ahead of time!

Beautiful view of Porto from our table

Both excited for the meal to come

Green soup with hints of celery

Tuna three ways

Popcorn chicken

Tomato sorbet

Grated foie gras with apple

Salmon with cucumber

Lobster gyoza

Another green soup, this time topped with Spanish ham

Bread with butter and olive oil

Grilled fish with seafood broth

Steak with truffle

My favorite dish – crispy suckling pig with mango

So many delicious wines to taste throughout the entire meal!

Dessert #1: Sorbet with red fruit

Dessert #2: Sorbet with blueberries

I told our waiter I love tawny port and he let us have a tasting!

“Magnum” ice cream bars

The sweets – I just asked for one of everything!

Great way to end the meal!

After discussing wine the entire evening with the waiter and sommelier, we asked if it’s possible to buy wine from their cellar – and it is! We requested a Vintage Port from 2011 (almost all is sold out) and they found this bottle! We will save it to celebrate later – maybe for our 20 year wedding anniversary 🙂
