Kerstmarkt entrance
Every winter I look forward to the Kerstmarkt, or Christmas Market, in Antwerp. As an American, it is still such a new, exciting experience because we don’t have anything like it – or at least not in Georgia!

Fong Mei
To celebrate my birthday a bit further, I organized a Dim Sum and tea brunch at Fong Mei with family and friends on Sunday. Dim Sum is especially fun with a big group, ordering a lot of dishes you can share with everyone! We’re lucky to have such a great Chinese restaurant closeby – Antwerp is actually the only city in Belgium with an official Chinatown.

Otomat
I’ve been really fortunate the last few years to celebrate my birthday abroad – last year in Copenhagen, the two years previous in New York City – but with our upcoming trip to Japan, this year we kept it low key.

Matcha Green Tea with Tapioca pearls
It has been soooo hot in Antwerp. This heat wave is bring the temperature up to the low 90s which is crazy for us here. So how to beat the heat? An ice cold bubble tea!

Fong Mei for Sunday dim sum!
So excited to have Christina and Rafaël in Anwerp for a few days! Sunday Rafaël had to be in Brussels, so Christina, Koen and I planned a day in the city.

With the famous De Koninck Bolleke bottle
With Christina and Rafaël in Antwerp, Koen and I booked a tour of the newly renovated De Koninck Brewery. Of course if you’re in Belgium you need to taste the local cuisine which includes the famous Belgian beers. De Koninck is the biggest brewery in Antwerp – most known for the “Bolleke”, an amber beer named for the goblet shaped glass it’s served in, Triple d’Anvers, an Antwerp style Belgian triple, and Wild Jo, the brewery’s newest beer made with wild yeast.

Marcel
We finally made it to Marcel. After passing the restaurant many times and saying we should eat there one day, we finally did!

Meat and Beer Fest at Park Spoor Noord
Hot Saturday in July? What better than to head to Park Spoor Noord at the Cargo Zomerbar for the Meat & Beer Fest? We invited Chris and Hannah to come to Antwerp and we enjoyed a nice summer evening with plenty of – you guessed it – meat and beer!

Bij Lam en Yin
We’re lucky to live in Antwerp because there are so many great restaurants including 20 Michelin star restaurants! One that we’ve been wanting to try for years now is Bij Lam en Yin – a Cantonese restaurant with a small menu that puts the focus on quality ingredients and dishes.

Dry aged beef to welcome us
To celebrate Father’s Day, Koen and I invited Dook and Els to come to Antwerp to visit our newest butcher Millevaches, aka Thousand Cows. We’re all steak enthusiasts and were excited to check out their offering.
